K-12 Programs

Calling all kids and educators who love STEM!

The College of Engineering and Polymer Science offers a variety of K-12 programs for future STEM leaders. We believe that young people should be given opportunities – beyond the classroom – to interact with and explore the exciting world of STEM.

Engineering Visit Day – Special Event

For high school juniors and seniors interested in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, corrosion engineering, and polymer science and polymer engineering programs. The afternoon includes lunch, presentation, and hands-on workshops. Optional campus tour hosted by Admissions.

Engineering Visit Day

Kids Career Day

This program introduces children in 1st-6th grade to careers in STEM. Students participate in fun activities, such as shooting a paper rocket in the air using Alka Seltzer and water to better understand chemical reactions. Students have also made roller coasters using insulation tubes and marbles to learn about kinetic energy.

Summer Camps

  • Multiplying Your Options Summer Campis a week-long camp at the end of June for girls entering 7thand 8thgrade. Talk to representatives from local engineering firms, learn about engineering, design an engineering project, and compete against other student teams.

Summer Camps

  • Summer Experience in Engineering Summer Campis a week-long camp in June for girls entering 9th– 12thgrade. Girls tour local engineering firms, work with professors on hands on projects, design an engineering project or participate in a research experiment in a lab, and compete against other student teams throughout the week. Residential and day camp options available. Registration now closed.

ASM Materials Camp® - Teachers

ASM International, the world's largest association of materials-centric engineers and scientists, is offering a nationally renowned event for teachers. This week-long, hands-on lab experience shows educators how to use applied engineering techniques in their classroom. This year, the camp is being offered at The University of Akron. The camp is free for attendees. Participants are eligible to receive four Continuing Education Units.

ASM Materials Camp - Teachers

Inquire! Innovate! Invent!

Spark your creative side! This event is for girls & boys in 6th-10th grade and girls who are Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts. The program is designed to teach participants about the impact of innovations of women and inspire them to become inventors too. Interactive and innovative workshops will showcase women and involve participants in projects that relate to STEM careers.

This annual event held in April introduces Akron area middle-school students to STEM through hands-on activities and cool experiments. UA students volunteer to help make the day a success.

Akron Global Polymer Academy

The Akron Global Polymer Academy provides opportunities for teachers and students of all ages to experience the exciting world of polymers through a variety of offerings, including: in-school visits featuring engaging hands-on demonstrations, polymer family science nights, field trips to our exciting polymer research school, and many polymer-related classroom resources available through theireducational website.

High School Visits

We are excited to welcome back large high school and community groups for on-campus visits. Students will tour facilities, meet with current students, and explore the Akron Engineering and Computing Experience. Group tours are available for groups of 8 or more. Students must be in 10th-12th grade. Interested groups must fill out aGroup Tour Request Form.
